What is CrossFit 646?

CrossFit, Tucson, Coaches,

What Makes Us Different?

The Community

CrossFit 646 is a group of likeminded individuals who want more from their gym then just a bunch of fancy equipment. We want to have fun, work hard and enjoy the people around us! It’s “CHEERS,” we replaced the beer with barbells, but Everybody still knows your name! We will get you the best results you’ve ever had in your life, because you’re gonna love coming to your gym every day!

The Coaching AKA “The League of Extraordinary CrossFit Coaches”

We pride ourselves on providing exceptional coaching. Our coaches are well educated, we love CrossFit and we will care about you, your goals and we’ll show you how to achieve them. We’ll show you how to perform the exercises (the magic is in the movements afterall), we’ll challenge you every workout, but we also want you to be a part of our community and our lives! Will you be my friend on Facebook?!

The WOD aka "The Workout of the Day"

Make no mistake about it, we have a good time at CrossFit 646, but we also work really HARD! We live the CrossFit Mantra of “Intensity equals results!” You have to work hard to achieve Elite Fitness and this pursuit of Elite Fitness is what will get you your results! We’ve seen this time and time again, the people who work hard in our program and love the hard work, get mind blowing results. It’s our brand of Constantly Varied, Functional Movements, done at High Intensities combined with eating a diet with meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar in the appropriate amounts that will keep us living long and healthy lives for years to come.

  • CrossFit

Our CrossFit program is highly instructional, motivating and more intense than any workout you have experienced. If you’ve never tried a CrossFit class before, now is the time. Click the Try Us For Free button at the top right corner of the page and see what this brand of training is all about. If you like the training, ask about our Fundamentals Course where we teach beginners the basic CrossFit movements, prepare their bodies for the potency of CrossFit and dabble in CrossFit theory so that they are prepared to pursue Elite Fitness and Health in our CrossFit Program.
  • Personal Training

Our personal training program at CrossFit 646 is a 1 on 1 experience with Melissa or Matt. They are highly qualified and experienced trainers who will teach you, motivate you and make you feel comfortable while they implement a program that is specifically designed to help you meet your goals. Typical goals include: improved movement and function, weight loss, better quality of life, improve sport performance, be able to play with my kids, qualify for weightlifting national championships. Because fo their experience, Melissa and Matt are capable of training anyone for nearly any goal. Just ask!
  • Olympic Weightlifting

We offer a specialized program for beginners and veterans of the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. In our program we have both personal coaching and classes for this sport with coaches who have experience competing and coaching at the Local and National Level.
  • Sport Performance

Our individual and small group sport performance program has been developed by coaches with over a combined 18 years of coaching middle school, high school and collegiate athletes from a variety of sports including football, baseball, volleyball, track, tennis, basketball, softball, soccer, swimming, lacrosse, wrestling, hockey, field hockey, figure skating, powerlifting and others. If you have a sports performance goal such as improving speed, power, decreasing injury, recovery from a previous injury or just enjoy training, come try a free session and see how we can help you reach your goals.

The Badass Class has been created with the goal of turning every person who attends the class into a CrossFit Badass! The class will be organized in such a way that appropriately supplements our current CrossFit Training Program. Each week the Badass Class will have a different focus that will be posted on the whiteboard next to the office in the gym and on the website. Examples for the class focus are: Olympic lifts, Strongman, Gymnastics, Bodybuilding and mobility for CrossFit, Testing (test a girl WOD, heroWOD, max lift, open workout), etc. This class will not be all instructional, there will be workouts every class that will apply the new skills that you will learn and prescriptions for you to practice on your own.

At our gym you will find a community of people who are dedicated to their goals and expert coaches who are committed to helping each individual member achieve those goals. Come give us a try. Your first training session is on us! Your health and performance are important to us!

  • What is a CrossFit workout like?

Because of the nature of the CrossFit philosophy being “Constantly varied,” every workout is different. What is guaranteed is that every class will consist of some type of warm up to include: mobility, flexibility, general calisthenics, and skill work. After the warm up, the class will be engaged in some sort of functional movement with a focus on running, rowing, biking, bodyweight exercises, and/or weightlifting using various tools (kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, and odd objects). These functional movements will be used in different combinations and amounts to prepare the group for any and all of life’s tasks or activities.
  • I pay $20 at L.A. Fitness per month. Why would I spend more for CrossFit?

Large corporate gyms or “Globo Gyms” make their money from people who pay their monthly fee and then never show up to train. Our business model thrives on a community that wants you to train. We want you to show up every day and support us while we support you in a fun and safe environment with the end goal being elite fitness and health. We want you to take off your headphones and enjoy the people around you. In our classes, people regularly meet some of the best friends they will ever have.

We also coach you every step of the way. We staff some of the best coaches around, just check out our “about us” page. We teach you every technique you need to know, in addition to offering nutritional advice and motivation for training. If you have an injury, we will help you work out around the injury or help you rehab it. If you can’t do the workout of the day or “WOD” we will help you modify it to your age, ability and skill level.

  • I heard from a friend that CrossFit is dangerous. Is that true?

CrossFit can be dangerous if implemented improperly. People train with us because we prescribe the exercises in appropriate doses and emphasize correct technique BEFORE adding intensity or weight. Granted there are risks with all forms of exercise, but there are far more risks in not exercising or not exercising enough. With SMART training combined with CrossFit’s potency, we are able to keep the injury risk, your heart rate, your blood pressure and your body fat low all at the same time!
  • What makes you different from the bootcamps I see at the park or workout videos like insanity?

Currently there are over 10,000 CrossFit gyms in existence today. The fact is there is a reason why CrossFit is exploding world-wide and it can be summed up in 1 word. RESULTS! Our brand of training gets more results than any other program out there. CrossFit has taken the most effective movements from gymnastics, yoga, weightlifting, and cyclical sports, and combined them to bring you the best program for building strength, endurance, stamina, speed, power, flexibility, coordination, agility, balance, accuracy and with that, a better body to live in. We promise you won’t find a better form of training anywhere!
  • What should I expect in my first workout session?

You should expect to learn something new, to work hard and to have a lot of fun doing it! We will take you through the workout step by step, while teaching you technique for every exercise along the way. If we determine that you are a good fit for a beginner’s course, then you will be with others who are new to CrossFit so that you can all learn and get fit together. During the beginner’s course we will also have some whiteboard sessions to get you up to speed on CrossFit Culture, News, Events and Philosophy.
  • I heard that CrossFit is really hard and I won’t be able to do it. Is it really for anyone?

The beauty of CrossFit is that it is infinitely scalable. That means that we can modify any workout for every age and ability level. I’m sure you are only reading this because someone told you that CrossFit was hard, but no other fitness programs or diets have worked for you. We won’t let you down and we never judge! We do not love our clients because of their abilities. We love our clients because of their hard work, courage, dedication, determination, discipline, sense of humor and for entrusting their health to us. Physical abilities are cool, but attitude is what earns respect in our gym. If you are still unsure, there is only one way to find out if CrossFit is a good fit for you. Come try a free class and find out. You won’t be disappointed.
  • I saw CrossFit on TV. Is that what you do in class?

The CrossFit Games is the Sport of Fitness and you can check it out at This however, is not the basis of our program. Our program is designed to make you stronger and healthier in the most efficient and effective manner possible. Over 200,000 people competed in the CrossFit Open last year and we will help you prepare for that if that is your goal, but competing in the sport is not for everyone and we would never pressure you to compete. We do want you to have goals though, and we will help you achieve those goals with the help of some hard work from you!
  • I heard you guys are big into the Olympic lifts. Olympic Weightlifting scares me. Do I have to do those lifts in a CrossFit class?

Olympic weightlifting is one of our passions. That being said, we won’t make you do anything that you don’t want to do. In fact, we believe that beginners should not touch a barbell until they are ready. The Olympic lifts are fun and effective and when you are ready we will teach them to you if you want. However, being coaches and competitors in the sport of Olympic weightlifting for many years has shown us that forcing people to do these lifts is never a good idea and is unhealthy. Although, what we typically see is that people get pretty curious about these lifts after seeing them in person, so be ready for the itch! Scratch, scratch.
