Maia is from Erie, PA.  She joined the Air Force right after high school, spent a year and a half in Turkey and then got stationed at Davis- Monthan in 2001.  She separated from the Air Force in 2005 to be a stay at home mom, and has lived here ever since.  Maia didn’t grow up in an active sport loving family, so wasn’t involved in sports until she joined the softball team knowing absolutely nothing about it her sophomore year of high school.  She struggled with body image most of her life. “I barely made the weight requirement to join the Air Force and exhausted all efforts to do so, and when I did, I spent the next 5 years of service on the weight management program.  It wreaked havoc on my self-confidence.” The year after having her 5th child, she was diagnosed with post-partum depression. In an attempt to feel better and end her prescription, she decided one day to go for a run and the rest is history.  Movement had such a positive impact on her health that she knew she had to always make it a big part of her daily life. She was always curious about CrossFit and in 2019, a gym opened near her house. “My first day in class, a woman in her 70s was showing me how to do ring dips and that was it, I was in.  I wanted to be her when I grew up. :)” She was so convinced she’d love it that she paid a whole year in advance. “I love CrossFit because there’s always something to learn or improve on. And most importantly it shifted my focus from what my body looks like and how much it weighs to what it can do.” Maia got her L1 in March 2020, and has been coaching ever since. “I’m a big lover of all people, it makes me happy to be a part of that pivotal hour of their day, and a part of their journey and the goals they’re working towards.”  When she’s not at the gym, Maia works as a physical therapy tech, enjoys spending time with her 5 kids, friends, listening to music, reading and eating sushi as often as possible.
