May 2015 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Amy Carruthers

Amy has been with 646 from the beginning.  Since Amy started CrossFit she has been extremely consistent with her training.  She rarely misses a class and she usually arrives 15 minutes prior to class to check the board, foam roll and mentally prepare for the workout.  If any of you have been in class with Amy you know that she has an intense work ethic that borders on crazy (we like a little crazy around here:) coupled with a no nonsense demeanor during workouts.  Amy is also becoming a student of CrossFit.  On a number of occasions, Amy has come up to me before class and said, “I watched a video about this exercise today and do you think this is the best technique?” or, “I watched Glassman’s video and he said….”  At 54 years old, we’ve seen Amy completely sell out (or redline) during a workout and then get up and cheer on other people in class or pick up another person’s weights for them when the workout is over!  Amy is participating in the Shed the Fat Competition and did the Murph Challenge on Memorial in the 5:30AM group. I hope I’m like Amy when I’m her age.  So cool!  Lastly, Amy hasn’t bought a 646 shirt yet!  She says, “She hasn’t earned it!”  Amy, you’ve earned it.  Come pick up a shirt next time you’re at the gym.  It’s on us!  Thanks for inspiring us and congratulations!
