June 2015 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

LANCE ROBERTSON

Lance has been training at 646 for 3 months.  Lance has exceptional character with great work ethic, a southern politeness and quick sense of humor.  The month of June was full of firsts for Lance.  In June, Lance hit a below parallel back squat personal record, a bench press personal record, touched his toes for the first time and installed a plastic toilet bowl ring (more on that later)! Most notably, he was able to do a straight legged hamstring stretch and touch his toes for the first time in his life! (Apparently his family was amazed!)  Additionally, Lance has spent a lot of time working on his squat outside of the gym and it’s that type of extra effort that has helped Lance make strides in class.  Not only is he squatting below parallel, he is stronger too!  Lance hit a 120kg (242 lbs) back squat last week that went up with no problem!*  Pretty awesome considering he wasn’t practicing squatting below parallel a couple months ago.  Lance is a great example of the fact that strength training, done correctly and consistently (he made almost every WOD this month), will improve your flexibility and mobility instead of decreasing it.  On a side note, Lance also took the time out of his summer to tile the floor in the women’s bathroom!  He offered to do it and did a professional job with the Mike Rowe esq project!  It’s not every day that someone would sacrifice their free time to help out like that.  Lance, we can’t thank you enough for everything you bring to our 646 community! Congratulations on earning the 646 Athlete of the Month Honor!
